CARSL Men's Division - Rules

Philosophy: The overall philosophy for the Connecticut Adult Recreational Soccer League will be one of recreational soccer for the older player. There will be no official standings or results kept. Players, coaches, managers, and fans are reminded that we are here for fun and love of the sport.

Rules: All teams will observe the following rules:
  1. Each team will consist of players who are 40 years of age or older.
  2. Each team will be allowed to have one and only one player under the age of 40 but not younger than 35. That player will only be allowed to play the goalkeeper position and must be identified to the coaches and referee at the beginning of the game.
  3. Only USSF certified referees must be used. If a team must use a non-USSF certified referee due to an emergency, the other teams coach must be notified of such and a mutual agreement reached in order to begin or resume play. In this case insurance provisions may be null and void.
  4. The home team coach is responsible for ensuring the nets and flags are in place for game time.
  5. All games will be played on Sunday at 10:00 unless otherwise arranged and mutually agreed upon by the coaches, with prior notification to the league Secretary and the state referee coordinator.
  6. Fighting and the issuance of red cards should be reported to the league Secretary. The Secretary will contact the league coaches who, acting as a disciplinary committee, may suspend any player reported as fighting, and may permanently suspend such player if repeated incidents occur. Coaches should encourage referee's to issue a red card to offending players.
  7. Games can end in ties.
  8. The league follows FIFA, USSF and CSSA rules with the following exceptions:
    1. There shall be no limit on the number of substitutes or substitutions in a game.
    2. There will be no limit on roster size
  9. A coach has the right to require an opponents player to show a valid CARSL Players Pass, Connecticut driver's license or any other valid ID to prove the player is 40 years or older or between 35 and 40 as noted in rule 2). If the player cannot produce proof of age he cannot play that game. Additionally, each captain is to have a copy of the team roster in his possession at game time. All players must be on the roster to play.
  10. The games will consist of two (2) 45 minute halves, unless both coaches agree to a lessor time period.
  11. The Referee's call is the final call (no matter how good or bad players think it is). The Referees that do our games are few in number and are doing us a favor by coming out on a Sunday morning. They will not tolerate nor should they be subjected to abuse. Any incident that causes or instills an entire team to walk off the field due to a referee call, will be reviewed by the league coaches and appropriate disciplinary action taken.
  12. Any player receiving a red card and ejected from the game must sit out the next game.
  13. Slide tackling is not allowed in this league. First offense is a verbal warning, the second offense is a Yellow card and third offense is a Red card.
  14. Every effort must be made to field a team. If a team is short players, the available players should still travel to the match. They can then be supplemented with the other teams substitutes or a short sided game can be played. Teams not showing for games are liable for the referee fees incurred by the home team.
